On July 27, 1953, the United States and the Soviet-backed North Koreans signed a ceasefire agreement. The Korean War, however, has never officially ended.
In October 1856, 1,200 European settlers became stranded in Wyoming on their way to the Salt Lake Valley. Their rescue by two Mormon youths is also commemorated on Pioneer Day.
